Rich East Indonesia New Species

Jakarta (ANTARA News) - Eastern Indonesia (KTI) is rich in new species found in field studies program Quick Review (Rapid Assessment Program / RAP) conducted Conservation International (CI) during the last 20 years.

"Most of the new species found from eastern Indonesia, because it is the forest in the region are still many untapped," said Communications CI Indonesia, Fachruddin Mangunjaya who contacted from Jakarta on Wednesday.

He pointed out, new species discovered in Indonesia in between, Smoky honeyeater or have a scientific name Melipotes carolae, Shark runs a scientific name Hemiscyllium galei and Flasher Wrasse, scientific name Paracheilinus Nursalim.

A number of new species were also found in the region of Papua New Guinea as "Bat Yoda" (tube-nosed fruit bat) and a giant tree frog (Large Green Tree Frog).

The new species is part than 1,300 species found in the CI RAP studies around the world and compiled in a new book `Still Counting ...` which contains some of memoirs, historical reports and methodological guidelines RAP expedition to some of the areas most remote and most known in the world.

Fachruddin said the study was an attempt to inventory the new species and once known can be a strategy for preservation.

According to him, because the species recently discovered in the forest unspoiled countryside so that the population is still abundant.
